letters to maddie

dear sweet maddie,

today i want to give you little pieces of advice.

from me to you, little one.

• love the lord.
• love your parents. they're doing the best they can.
• love your aunt ash.
• be as southern as possible. it's fun and the boys will love it.
• always say please and thank you.
• go to UK. bleed blue. 
• join a sorority.
• do some stupid things in college so you won't when you're out of it. should be easy if you do the above.
• when you find true love (whether at 16 or 36) hold on to it. ask your momma about this one.
• drink sweet tea.
• take care of your body as much as you can while you're young. it's hard to start when you're old.
• try, try again.
• don't terrorize the dog. we don't want you turning into a psycho.
• wear dresses as often as possible. not only cute but also so much easier to go potty!
• love thy neighbor. unless they like UofL.
• pancakes are better than waffles, no matter what uncle T says.
• if you want something ask your father. if you really, really want something, ask grandma.
• in about three years start asking for a little brother or sister. do not ask any sooner than that. please!
• dogs are better than cats. 
• boys are gross. until you're older. much older.
• britney spears is awesome. the beatles rocked. adele is on fire. and country music can't be beat. 
• ruffles potato chips dipped in ketchup is the best snack.
• if you ever want anything of the tree nut variety, come to my house. don't try to kill your mother.
• be nice to others.
• network, network, network. (this one came from uncle T)
• study hard.
• make 2 or 3 really good friends. not 20 ok friends.
• tell the truth. unless, it's going to hurt someone's feelings. white lies can be ok.
• read, read, read. tv is stupid anyway.
• don't say stupid.
• don't call people names or make fun of others that aren't like you. God created everyone different and that's why the world is so great!
• be different but not difficult. no one likes someone who has to go against the grain every time.
• fight for what's right.
• fight for what you love.
• fight for world peace. (hey, i had to throw that in there!)
• if you don't know, ask. but realize there are some stupid questions.
• when in doubt, wear navy.
• big hats for derby.
• go into a career that you love not one that's guaranteed to be lucrative. there's no guarantee in this economy.
• if you do something wrong admit it.
• say you're sorry.
• smile.
• fake it till you make it, girl.
• optimism will get you further than pessimism.
• bored? go to target. you can never be bored there!
• remember everything happens for a reason.
• no matter how bad it gets, what you've done wrong, or if it seems like it couldn't get any worse. you have tons people that love you and believe in you, no matter what.
• there's always a new day.

friday's fabulousness

well, friday is here once again.

to be totally honest, i'm not loving our weekends lately.

too much house hunting, packing, cleaning, money spending.

but, there's an upside to all that.

we'll be in louisville in just weeks.

i'll have a new house to decorate.

friends and fam nearby.

new places to explore.

oh, and that little thing happening in september? yeah, more planning to do for that thing!

so with our new home on my mind, today's fab is all about the home...


1. i love, love, love this kitchen. now i'm not saying we'll have one this nice (you never do in a rental!) but, i can totally accessorize with yellow...

can you believe it?

no? me neither.

i'm having a hard time comprehending it all but it's real.

uncle T got a new job and i've given notice on my job in lexington. it's coming so soon. this weekend we're looking for houses. hopefully we'll be near you and your parents. then i can come and see you anytime i want. and also, give your momma a break from laundry and cooking and cleaning and holding you!

we'll be there (and hopefully all settled in) before you get here. you can come over any time you like. sleepovers? you betcha!

it's funny how life throws you curve balls. but you know what? you just have to swing. and keep swinging until you hit a homerun.

and hit one we did!
