hello oscar.

were you watching last night?

i love the oscars for so many reasons. mainly for the red carpet but especially when there are a lot of high quality films up for so many awards. and the academy sure didn't disappoint this year!

let's start with my fav picks on the red carpet.

um, hello. do you not already know how much i love gwenyth? i loved when the asked her who she'd love to work with and she said, "Jay Z". it was a total white girl moment!

i love me some javier bardem. who wouldn't? those spaniard good looks. that accent. maybe he's why i majored in spanish ;)

sandra was a beauty last night, as usual. i can't even believe where she was a year ago. great comeback night for her. i loved her presenting the award for best actor too. she called jeff bridges dude!

jesse eisenberg was great in the social network. i thought maybe he was only like that in the movie but i think he might be a real life ass. just saying. or maybe he's just a little awkward and doesn't know how to handle the stardom yet?

this was my fav dress last night. mila kunis is a beauty and this dress was stunning on her.

on to the show...

i think james and anne did a pretty good job. my fav joke of the night was when james was in a hot pink gown and made a joke about charlie sheen. i think anne is a natural borne comedienne. but i miss the days of billy crystal. the dancing, the singing, the huge production. that was the great stuff!

hello? you're at the oscars melissa. we don't say the f word. i'm glad she won though.

my two favs won. everyone knew they would. i especially love when they thank their family, more specifically their spouses or significant others. they both did so lovingly and they were so eloquent and heartfelt. they both truly deserved the win for their roles. plus who wouldn't love to say to their kid one day, "i won this oscar when i was pregnant with you. you were on the oscar stage with me!" that would be so awesome. so would being either one of their children, duh. (don't worry mom i'm not vying for a celeb parent, you're still the best mommy ever!)

and here was the highlight of the show for me...

awesome.

what did you think?

update: dalpal

this past weekend dallas and i (but i mean really just me) made some homemade doggy treats!

ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup milk
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 t. aluminum free baking powder

(the original recipe i found called for skim milk and natural pb, so there's no perservatives but dallas eats peter pan pb with no problems and we don't buy skim milk so i wasn't going to go buy some. but the aluminum free baking powder is very important! i looked it up. and i wanted to get whole wheat flour for us humans anyway. but i think you could use white flour and be ok.

instructions:

mix your dry ingredients and set aside. mix your wet ingredients until fully blended with a spoon.

slowly add in the flour mixture.

roll out dough on wax paper.

use a cookie cutter to cut out your treats. you can use any shape. i got a dog bone cutter from hobby lobby for 50 cents! or if you want to skip the rolling and cutting you could just form into normal cookie shape. they don't care what they look like, right?!

bake in 350 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes. some of mine were thinner than others and so they cooked up around 8 minutes or so. i def kept an eye on these while they were baking.

dallas oh so patiently waiting for the cooling process to finish.

teasing him.

blurry pic of dog = crazy excitement about his treat

use the treats within a week or freeze for use up to a month. added bonus: dallas loves them straight from the freezer and for some reason it takes him a little bit longer (like .01 seconds) to get it down.

can i pull this off?

so i've had this black blazer sitting in my closet forever. i loved it when i bought and have loved it ever since but have never worn it.

i decided to be brave saturday when we went to brunch.
usually if i can just make it down the stairs with an outfit on i'm good to go for the day.
so once i got completely ready and put on the blazer dead last and ran down the stairs!

and i wore it all day people!

so tell me...did i pull it off?

doodles

barclay and i had brunch at a new place in lex. it's been open for a while but we just went today. the wait wasn't too bad and the food was delicious. not too expensive either.

i had the huevos rancheros. sooooo good. i wished it had had a little more spice to it. the eggs were perfectly scrambled and you could tell the corn tortillas were handmade and fresh.

doodles uses local products, all organic and fresh.

the best thing about this place?
their famous beignets.
handmade. fresh. warm. delicious.

holy batman, these are so good. i brought one home and can't wait to dig into in the morn.
yummo!

forget you

for no one in particluar ;)

by the way did you notice gwen?

new look!

so how do you like the new blog look?

i love, Love, LOVE it!

i'd been thinking about a change for awhile now and happen to stumble upon a blog, Not So Homemade.

courtney is spectacular, wonderful, magic. seriously, magic.

she was so easy to work with and answered all my questions and even changed things like a million times for this indecisive gal!

please go check her out asap.

recipe of the week

rutabaga fries

ingredients:
rutabaga
olive oil
seasoned salt (or any seasoning you like on your normal fries)

instructions:

wash your rutabaga.

peel all the skin off.

chop into wedges. i'm horrible at this and need more practice.

now here's where i have no pics because my phone died and my digital camera is awful and well the end result was terrible.

i can admit when i've made a fail. and this was a BIG one.

i used too much olive oil and the fries wouldn't crisp up like i wanted them too. i hate soggy fries. i did however try one that was semi-crisp and it was good. you honestly can't tell it's not a potato until the after taste gets ya. it will take a little getting used to but i will make these again. i'll put an update next week when i make them again.

plus side of the rutabaga: for a cup of raw it's 1 ww point. cooked it's 2 ww points. and a serving of the fries is 3 ww points. not bad.

update: liv & lilly

here's what the girls have been up to lately...

eating cookies and making a mess!

new leg warmers for dance class...she's just so cute!

loving gymnastics.

wishing she could go in with the big girls.

new shades for lilly. verdict's still out on those!

we're def ready for spring around here. we got a little taste last week and were able to play outside and take some walks but this week it was back to low temps and rain. soon enough though we'll be at the park with a picnic and walking around the arboretum. i can't wait. and neither can the girls! ;)

crafts: tiered serving tray

i've been seeing these DIY tiered trays all over blogland lately. i didn't realize how easy they were until i tried it myself!

supplies:
plates or bowels of your choice (i used a dinner plate, a salad plate and a bowl from target. i loved the patterns and would have loved a whole set but money doesn't grow on trees!)
candle sticks (bought at dollar tree. $1 a piece, can't beat that!)
E6000 (on hand)
heavy weighted pieces to help the glue set (i used my super heavy wooden candle holders)

glue one candle stick to the bowl.

glue the other to the small salad plate.

make sure you wipe up your excess glue.

weight both of those down with your heavy objects for at least an hour or two. they glue says 24 hours but i'm not that patient and only waited the length of a movie. i haven't had any problems with mine from not waiting.

glue the other side of the candle stick to your large plate.
after you wait a while then glue the other end of the candle stick with your bowl to the smaller plate and weight down, i let it sit this way over night. (no pic of this, somehow i forgot to snap one. sorry!)

and viola! you're done and it's super cute looking. i now have it on the dinning room table holding some little munchies!
